PNC Innovation Zone at Whitaker Center
Project Information
PNC Innovation Zone
The Whitaker Center, Harrisburg, PA, is a premier venue for science and the arts, offering a dynamic blend of interactive exhibits, live performances, and educational programs for all ages.
After an analysis of the Whitaker Center’s visitor age demographic determined a void in attendance of pre-teen and teenagers, the PNC Innovation Zone was conceptualized. Converting the Wonder Store Gift Shop into a 7,000-square-foot Purposeful Gaming Studio and Cinema, the PNC Innovation Zone encourages students to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education through the exciting world of game design, coding, and storytelling. The Innovation Zone features 30 gaming stations, 12 gaming consoles, 10 televisions, a 12-foot projection screen, and the 40-foot Select Medical Digital Cinema.
The PNC Innovation Zone was created to embrace the video game industry and inspire an older demographic of students to learn advanced computer education and explore the possibility of careers in video game design, graphic design, and coding. These programs are designed for students between 2nd and 8th grades.
Barry Isett & Associates was proud to support this amazing transformation through structural and MEP engineering services. This $1.2 million project was successfully completed $15K under budget, allowing the Whitaker Center to invest the remaining funds into other areas of the educational program.
